A great way to keep your skin looking healthy is by exfoliating. Exfoliating removes residue and dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. This is also called “microdermabrasion .” Although there are a variety of ways to do this, it’s best to practice care when exfoliating as doing it wrong can lead to skin damage. When you skin appears dull or washed out it is generally a result of residue and grime that have accumulated on the skins surface. The skin will take on a healthier, more fresh appearance if the grime is removed.
Once you decide to try facial exfoliation you should be sure to avoid harsh products, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you ever notice a reddening during the exfoliation process, you should stop immediately. For many people, using a wash cloth is enough because it provides a gentle exfoliation of the skin via the cloth fibers without being too harsh. It is generally not recommended to use loofahs or exfoliating brushes on your face as these are meant for the other parts of the body where the skin can withstand more abrasion and won’t become damaged. Some people choose to use chemical exfoliants because they do not have an abrasive quality while still being able to resurface the skin by removing the skin cells. Care should also be taken when using chemical exfoliants as well. It is recommended that you do a “patch test” first (test a small area of the skin on your face) to make sure that you do not have a reaction to the solution.
Many people prefer to use natural exfoliants which are also very effective. They usually don’t provide the instant results that you often can appreciate with chemical exfoliants, but they generally do not damage the skin and they do a good job for many. The most popular ingredient of the natural products is papaya, however Zenmed uses all-natural extracts of Comfrey and Green Tea to create a gentle yet effective peeling action on the outer surface of the skin.
